The Islander inn is South Bass Island’s first Caribbean style hotel and they even have real palm trees! They have nearly 100 newly renovated rooms, 4 swimming pools, and 2 swim-up bars, you’ll be sure to find you’re going to enjoy your time at the Islander. The Islander is located just short walk away from the center of downtown, making it a prime spot to rest your head while on Put In Bay. Bayshore Resort is one of only two hotels/resorts that you can stay at which give a lake front view, with the other being the Put-in-Bay Waterfront Condos, however don’t let the name fool you because you can still rent rooms there. Bayshore has a great location since you have downtown within walking distance but you’re just far away enough to have some peace and quiet. Is Put-in-Bay family friendly?
Yes, Put-in-Bay is very family friendly but most especially midweek from Sunday through Thursday. There’s countless activities to explore such as Perry’s Cave Family Fun Center which has a mini-golf course, butterfly house, awesome antique car museum, giant fort maze, and even more! Ask staff for an island map that will have all island activities listed.
How many bars are on Put in Bay
The island has 25 great bars including the winery and you won’t have a bad time at any one of them! In fact, most weekend evenings see groups of people bar hopping from one bar to another to find the one that feels the most comfortable for them. There is an abundant variety of music to choose from as well.
Can you swim at put in bay?
Yes! As far as swimming goes you have many options. If you are staying at Island Club or Put-in-Bay Condos, they have their own pool for guests. There are also 2 pools open to the public downtown: the MIST swim up bar located downtown next to Mr. Eds, as well as the Sandbar which can be found at Adventure Bay where there’s also a great arcade and go kart track for kids.
How do you get around Put in Bay?
The most common way to get around on put in bay is by golf cart. Luckily for you there are several different rental companies near both boat docks that will be happy to provide you with transportation. However, if you want to save the money, as the rentals can get expensive especially on busy weekends, most everything is within walking distance. Or check with your lodging provider as their carts are usually cheaper than those by the docks, and they allow overnight rentals.
What do you wear to Put-in-Bay?
You can wear whatever you want. You won’t find a restaurant or bar on the island with a strict dress code so just be sure to check the weather. If you need more than that, a good rule of thumb is resort-casual. Flip flops are the norm.
What is there to do on Put in Bay when it rains?
There’s plenty to do on Put in Bay when it rains! You can still go to every bar, restaurant, store, or any other indoor activity available on the island. A lot of people like to find a place to look out into the water during storms because that can be pretty cool.
How much does it cost to take the ferry to Put in Bay?
If you take the miller ferry round trip, tickets start at $15 for adults on the miller ferry. If you want to bring your car (which is not recommended), it will cost you an extra $18 each way on top of that. If you take the Jet Express from Port Clinton or Sandusky, it will be $35 round trip.
Is there a ferry from Cedar Point to Put in Bay?
Yes and no! Most seasons, you can hop on the Jet Express in Cedar Point harbor on select dates and times and go to some of Lake Erie’s other islands like Put in Bay and Kelley’s Island. Head to Cedar Point’s website for more information on their schedule. However, when the special Cedar Point boat is not running, there is usaully always trips from downtown Sandusky which is very close to Cedar Point.
Does Put in Bay have a beach?
Put-in-Bay has two very small beaches open to the public. One can be found at the state park near the Island favorite Joe’s Bar and the other can be found on the island’s east point but if you’re looking for a sandy Florida beach prepare to be a little disappointed. There is also the old bathing beach down next to the monument.
One of the questions we get asked most frequently is, “Why is it called Put-in-Bay?” Well, there’s plenty of different stories you may hear, but one is the most widely accepted. The island was known as a sanctuary for ships in Lake Erie during storms. Sailors of old would “put into the bay” to get out of hazardous sailing weather.
