How does the typical word count get calculated?

Suggested word count is another helpful writing metric we provide in our in-app text editor. We develop the suggested or typical word count by scraping the top-ranking articles and calculating the median from the content ranking on the front page of Google (which is usually the top 10 results).

This gives you an understanding at a glance of the highest-ranking content’s length, so you can consider how much you need to write to comprehensively answer the search intent.
